Fighting finches

by Fighting finches - 17:36 on 06 March 2021

Gold finches have arrived in the garden attracted by sunflower seeds. We have in the past had green finches  but not gold finches so looked forward to a display of flashes of red and yellow. However in addition to this we have had the most vicious display of territorial fighting against other goldfinches and any other bird that has the audacity to get near the seeds. Incredible. The resident goldfinch spends more time seeing off all comers than it does eating, even to the extent of feathers flying. Will now look at goldfinches in a completely different light.

Also today hares are out in the fields playing and pairing up , lovely to watch. Sign of Spring on the doorstep. Just wish it would warm up a bit and a ray of sunshine would appear through the clouds. Well March went out like a lamb sonfully expect rough weather at the end of the month as March goes out like a lion!................, poem for today....
